Conversions
Being one of the largest building contractors on the Isle of Lewis, we have the capability to undertake loft and garage conversions of any size.
The space in a loft or attic can be as much as 30% of the total floor area of the home. In almost all cases it is wasted space that can be turned into a valuable habitable space. Loft conversions can enhance and add value to your existing home, for instance, up to 20% could be added in value with a loft bedroom.
A garage can be converted into a home office, a gym, a workshop, a studio, or as an additional living room or bathroom.
There are various ways in which both conversions can be constructed – our expert team are happy to advise on the best option for your home to create the functional space that you desire.
We understand that a property conversion is a major undertaking and we strive to make the whole process as stress free as possible for our clients by dealing with all the necessary paperwork and applications. Planning permission is required where you extend or alter the roof space and it exceeds specified limits and conditions.
Loft Conversion Types
There are a few loft conversion types, from the simplest Velux conversion to the more complicated Hip to Gable conversions. The examples below illustrate these :-
Dormer Loft Conversion
This type of loft is an extension to the existing roof, which increases the volume of your attic space by extending forward from the existing roof to form a flat ceiling.
This also provides a great amount of floor space for bedrooms and bathrooms, such as en suites or wet rooms.
Dormer conversions can be positioned on any side of the roof, making it the most popular option chosen by customers.
Hip To Gable Loft Conversion
Hip to Gable loft conversions require major changes to the roof, where the existing roof hip is replaced with a gable end wall.
Planning permission will be needed because it changes the outline of the roof.
This type of extension creates a more natural look by matching roof tiles and potentially creates more space for your extra rooms.
Velux Loft Conversion
This type of conversion it the most cost effective, which converts the loft space without altering the roofline of your house.
Planning permission is not normally required.
This is an ideal solution to make small lofts appear bigger, with the Velux windows allowing more natural daylight into the attic space.
Our experienced team will work with you from the design stage to realise the potential of your unused roof or garage space. We offer a free no obligation quotation for loft, attic, or garage conversions.
